How to Install a Bidet Seat

Add a bidet seat to any standard toilet — with or without a warm-water tap.

A cold-water bidet seat installs in 20 minutes; warm-water versions need a nearby GFCI outlet and a warm-water tee.

Common causes

  • No electrical outlet within reach
  • No warm-water source at the toilet
  • Odd toilet shape (French curve, D-shape)
  • Non-standard bolt spacing

Step-by-step

  1. 01Shut off the toilet supply and drain the tank
  2. 02Remove the existing seat and install the bidet mounting plate
  3. 03Install the tee on the supply line — warm-water tee if applicable
  4. 04Plug into a GFCI outlet and test at low flow first

When to call Northbridge

  • No GFCI outlet near the toilet
  • Warm-water tee requires new tubing to the vanity
  • Toilet bowl shape isn't standard round or elongated
  • Multiple units for the whole house
